  I remember a call saying that they didn't feel Jesus' sacrifice was all that as he was going to get resurrected anyway. Obviously I tried to argue the other way at the time.

  this is a fascinating and funny tale of one man's serious attempt, for one year, to obey every bible command (he even runs into jws!

  i am wondering how much of my anxiety about the end of the world is from the wt experience, and how much is just me.

  i just watched wall-e, and while a cute movie, it really made me anxious.

  scifi in general makes me nervous.

  Reflections on the assembly - please help!!!!

  good morning,.

  one of the two district assemblies was this past weekend in hampton va and my wife was very excited to attend, but she only attended about 1.5 hours on friday and then i attended the morning session with her on saturday.

  not sure how these number compare with past years, but about 5200 folks were in attendance (by their count) and it appeared that about 20 folks were going to be baptized.. here are couple of my thoughts on what i heard, i kept notes, but they were in my wife's binder, so was unable to grab them this morning.. most of the speakers i heard slammed higher education....and they tried to tie that back to the bible, that was sort of a reach if you ask me...wasn't luke involved with medicine in some way??.

  I would love to get her some good non WTS sources on bible interpretation, do any of you know of anything I can use.

  You need this: How to Read the Bible: History, Prophecy, Literature - Why Modern Readers Need to Know the Difference, and What It Means for Faith Today

  Buy it. Buy it quick.

  Once you have it, perhaps you could suggest that you read through that book together once a week, or as often as you feel appropriate, as well as her having her study with the sister if that's what she's decided to do. Or maybe she would prefer to read it by herself. If the reader has an open mind, it should destroy psuedo-Christian fundamentalism such as JWism.

  It's not "apostate" - it doesn't once mention Jehovah's Witnesses. When you do chapter four (apocalyptic literature in the bible), you will come across a chap called William Miller. Do some research on his beliefs (Wikipedia is good) with your wife and compare them to the JW eschatology.

  How Long Did It Take You to Realize It Wasn't "The Truth"?

  i see some posters still aren't 100% sure that the jehovah's witness religion might not be "the truth"....was there a moment when things became very clear for you regarding this religion?.

  do you still think, maybe----jws aren't all that bad??

  I was never really 100% sure it was the truth. (I was a born-in.) And my research gradually made it an impossibility, although there were some startling discoveries near the beginning of it.

  hello i posted here a few months back in february about a situation i had with a jw girl.

  if i last recall from that time she wasnt "feeling" me during that time.

  You can pick apart the religion's doctrines, but this can be a complicated, time-consuming thing to do. When I was researching on my own, I wanted to use something that was not written by anti-JW people/apostates, so I bought this book:

  How to Read the Bible: History, Prophecy, Literature--Why Modern Readers Need to Know the Difference, and What It Means for Faith Today

  It doesn't even mention Jehovah's Witnesses, but it can be very powerful in showing the WatchTower's assertions to be false as it deals with recognising what the literature in the bible actually is. Get yourself a copy, read it, and consider using it with your girl (at school?).

  The chapter on apocalyptica is especially relevant to JW's. They are going through their 'Revelation book' in their group study at the moment, and comparing the nonsense they teach with some real biblical scholarship could do wonders for her.
